Lokomat

iAM ABLE Fitness was selected by The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis as the grateful recipient of their Lokomat Pro, a robotic device which helps people improve their ability to walk after suffering illness or injury. Donated to iAM ABLE Fitness for the help they provide to the community, the potentially life-altering device is a form of physical therapy that suspends the patient in a harness over a treadmill and an exoskeleton robotic frame, attached by straps to the outside of the legs, moving the legs in a natural walking pattern. The Lokomat Pro allows for consistent and sustainable exercise, which is critical in making therapy more effective. This rare, cutting-edge equipment is only available in a handful of places across the country. The Lokomat Pro, available now at iAM ABLE Fitness, is the only one in South Florida.

Unweighing System

The Unweighing System enables partial weight-bearing therapy to be conducted with the assurance of patient comfort and safety, and with convenient access to the patient for manual assistance and observation. The Unweighing Support System provides assistance, helping patients regain their confidence, their strength and their stride. The system allows every patient the opportunity to get an early start on rehabilitation.

Functional Electrical Stimulator

Functional electrical stimulation, or FES, uses electricity to stimulate and control a part of the body. It is also called Functional Neural Stimulation or FNS. Over the past three decades of research FES has advanced by leaps and bounds. It can now be used to help people with spinal cord injury to move their arms or legs, control their bowel and bladder, treat or prevent pressure sores, and more. It can exercise muscles for greater strength and tone and improve circulation to minimize pressure sores.

Stationary Cycle

With the additional stationary upper and lower cycle users can pedal the cycle using FES-stimulated muscles. Researchers have noted that this form of FES provides real aerobic exercise in people who otherwise can't move on their own; it boosts heart and lung function, improves strength and circulation, and builds muscle mass, even in people with high quadriplegia.

Power Plate

The Power Plate provides a platform which enhances the effectiveness of exercises performed on its vibrating plate. This vibration has many benefits including strength increase and neuromuscular stimulation. Additionally, research has indicated it helps promote and keep good bone health by stimulating bone density.

The vibrations produced by Power Plate trigger neurological responses in muscle, which stimulate sensory receptors to elicit a "tonic vibration reflex." When using Power Plate, the recruitment threshold of motor units is lower when compared to the threshold during voluntary muscular contraction. More importantly, involuntary contractions occur in response to the vibration stimulus. Therefore, patients with limited mobility can benefit just as much as patients who are more agile.

Total Gym

Total Gym is an angular variable resistance device. It uses your body weight against the pull of gravity as the load, which means Total Gym doesn't lock you into one position or movement. You can train in all three planes of motion: front to back, side-to-side and rotational. Functional exercises create stronger, leaner muscles than isolation exercises, because they encourage the muscles of the body to work together imitating real life activities. All while using your own body weight which also benefits bone health and circulation.

Ergometer

The ergometer is used to incorporate many different benefits to a client's program. Its primary benefit is to increase upper body strength, as well as provide a custom cardiovascular workout helping to increase caloric expenditure. Additionally, clients are able to stand at the ergometer and allowed to work the upper body while simultaneously weight bearing. The combined effect of both standing and upper body work allows for proprioceptive cues to travel between the nervous system and brain.

Standing Frames

With various standing frames, our active standing frame provides great benefits. Active standing provides lower body range of motion and upper body strengthening. Unlike passive standers, users move the handles with their arms (or a caregiver can assist) which creates a reciprocal movement in the legs. The full range seat has hinged, break-away sections for each leg that allow full leg extension while standing. This advanced stander enhances the medical benefits of standing and keeps the body in shape for medical breakthroughs. Numerous research studies suggest that use of an active standing frame can positively affect an individual’s health.
